Kim Yo Yong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Yong Eun, condemned the call of the Group of 7 (G7) for denuclearization of the country, speaking of violating its constitution and its sovereignty, as the state news agency KCNA broadcast today.

Kim said denuclearization is a "unreversiblely finalised agenda" that could never be implemented and that nuclear possession is a key interest in North Korea and an irreversible line, KCNA announced.

"Denuclearization is the line of non-regression that can never be overcome," Kim reportedly said, adding that anyone who tries to harm the basic interests of the state, equipped with nuclear, will make "the worst choice of inviting disaster".

Kim also stated that North Korea's nuclear weapons are a deterrent means of self-defense acquired in response to what she described as persistent nuclear threats from her enemies and described them as a "acrogonal stone" to ensure peace.

She estimated that the statements calling for denuclearization are "completely outdated" and will not change regardless of how strongly anyone criticizes the North Korean nuclear programme.

In a joint statement issued last night following their meeting, G7 leaders expressed "deep concern" about North Korea's nuclear programme and ballistic missile programme and reaffirmed their commitment to the country's full denuclearisation in agreement with UN Security Council resolutions.
