In critical but stable condition a 19-year-old British tourist, who was seriously injured in a car accident during his holiday in Zakynthos a few days ago, is being treated. The young man, who according to British media is called Louis Benson, suffered heavy craniocerebral injury and is hospitalized at the University General Hospital "Attikon" in Athens.

The accident occurred in the night hours between Thursday and Friday (11–12 June), when the 19-year-old was injured while on a four-wheeled pig-type machine. Due to the severity of his injuries, however, it was considered necessary to have his immediate air passage from Zakynthos to Athens, which took place on Friday morning and a few hours later he was admitted to hospital surgery "Attikon".

According to his mother, Irina Olinda Olexevic, her son had traveled to the island along with his friends on his first trip without his family. After the accident he was rushed to the hospital with brain bleeding and put in an artificial coma. His mother arrived in Athens on 13 June, while through an online fundraising campaign she appealed for financial assistance, revealing that the 19-year-old had no travel insurance. As he said, the family's hospitalization and transportation costs are particularly high, and support is also requested for his father's transition to Greece.

In a recent update, she stated that doctors closely monitor the youth's health course and await the results of new tests, in order to determine whether his wake-up process can be phased out from the narcosis.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, the family retains hopes of improvement, as, according to further information, the 19-year-old reportedly reacted by shaking his head when his relatives spoke to him during his hospitalization.
