French President Emanuel Macron welcomed the "success" of the G7 summit held in Evian, describing it as "a moment of unity, quality debate and real cooperation between the leaders who met here", after months of "dispute".

"This G7 is objectively a success, it was a moment of unity, quality debate and real co-operation among the leaders who met here," Macron said at a press conference, stressing that it "allowed us to coordinate very closely to respond to crises and work on the great challenges of our time.".

G7 leaders agreed at the summit that the balance of power has shifted in favour of Ukraine in its war with Russia, the French president said. "Ukraine is coming, resisting and Russia is retreating," he stressed.

At the same time he said that "remobilising the G7" to increase pressure in Russia is "extremely important".

"We are committed to increasing pressure, including strengthening our sanctions, and this remobilisation of G7 is extremely important," he said.

With regard to Ukraine, "this is the first time we have such convergence within the G7. And this is the first time we have come to such clear conclusions," he said.
