US President Donald Trump said the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran would be signed within the next 48 hours, arguing that the text has now been finalised. However, he said that the place of signature has not yet been decided.

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that the deal between the US and Iran is expected to be signed within the next 48 hours, as the two sides have completed shaping the final text.

Speaking to reporters prior to leaving the G7, the American president appeared confident that the process is in its final stage.

"It's in its final form"
"It is in its final form," he said features referring to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) negotiated by the two countries.

When asked exactly where the agreement was signed, Trump replied that no final decision has yet been taken.

"We haven't determined it yet," he said.

The US President's statement follows the information they want Washington and Tehran to seek to speed up the signing process, possibly before the planned meeting of the two countries' delegations in Switzerland.

What the Agreement provides for
The draft agreement provides, inter alia, for the termination of military operations, the gradual lifting of US sanctions against Iran, the reopening of the Straits of Hormuz, the release of Iranian funds which remain frozen abroad, and the opening of negotiations on a definitive agreement within 60 days.

At the same time, Tehran reaffirms in the text that it will not acquire nuclear weapons, while both sides agree to discuss the future of the Iranian nuclear programme under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The forthcoming signature is considered one of the most important diplomatic developments in the Middle East in recent years and is expected to affect both US–Iran relations and the overall balance of forces in the region.
