In the arrest of a 31-year-old, who allegedly participated in phone fraud and thefts against mostly elderly people in areas of Athens, the Police went on to do so. At the same time, another 22-year-old accomplice was identified, against whom an arrest warrant was issued and sought.

The 31-year-old was arrested yesterday, Tuesday (16/6), in Western Attica, as part of an arrest warrant and following a coordinated police operation with the assistance of the Intelligence and Special Actions Sub-Directorate.

How they workedAccording to EL.A., the perpetrators had a call center in Western Attica, from where they contacted their potential victims, pretending to be employees of an electricity company and citing alleged damage or leakage. When the "telephoneman" realized that the victim had been convinced, he alerted his accomplices, who assumed the role of the theft's natural perpetrators, including the 31-year-old arrested and his 22-year-old accomplice.

As it turns out, the 31-year-old drove exclusively the "operational" vehicle, which was the property of a relative of the person and took care to park it in places with good visual contact with the target house, always respecting counter-monitoring measures.

Then, constantly occupying their victims on the phone, so that they did not have the opportunity to communicate with any of their relatives or authorities, they persuaded them to put valuable and money outside their home and steal them.

From the economic investigation carried out it emerged that the perpetrators sought and made money for the proceeds obtained from their criminal activity, through the acquisition, possession and use of property, knowing its criminal origin.

In fact, in the majority of them they were unemployed, with their income not sufficient to cover their lifestyles and excessive transactions or purchases they made, while trading exclusively with cash.

After investigations carried out in houses, they were found and seized:

- Jewelry and jewelry,

- 330 euros,

- A vehicle,

- A laptop,

- Two cell phones and

- A lot of sim cards.

As has been known by EL.A., so far have been solved two cases of theft, of which the perpetrators removed 200 pounds of gold, gold worth more than EUR 450,000 and 2,000 euros in cash.

The arrester was taken to the competent prosecutor's authority and referred to a main interrogation, while investigations into the detection and arrest of his 22-year-old accomplice continue.
