With a humorous mood Brazilian President Luis Inassio Lula da Silva commented, Selesao's troubled start at World Cup 2026, saying he would... hire Lionel Messi to reinforce the team.

Brazil began the event with a 1-1 draw against Morocco, showing a moderate picture, unlike Argentina, which prevailed impressively in Algeria with 3-0, thanks to a Messi hat-trick.

"I was thinking of hiring Messi to play in Brazil," said Lula from Geneva, in a humorous position.

The Brazilian President pointed out, however, that the result of the premiere is not particularly worrying, describing Morocco as the "strongest group" of the Selesao group.

Brazil, a five-way world champion, will face Haiti in the second race, before completing the group phase against Scotland.

Despite a bad start, Lula recalled that Brazil has previously conquered the World Cup when it was not considered a favourite, such as 1994 and 2002.
