Temporary amendments to the Athens - Thessaloniki route will enter into force, from 22 to 24 June 2026, due to planned projects to restore the railway infrastructure implemented by the Infrastructure Manager, Greek Railways (OSEs), in the Leiano-Larisa section, according to information from Hellenic Train.
The projects are part of the infrastructure rehabilitation programme in Thessaly which were hit by extreme weather phenomena Daniel and Elias and are considered necessary for the progress and completion of the projects concerned. In order to serve passengers, Hellenic Train will make available buses which will replace the rail routes in the section of Leianokoudi - Thessaloniki and vice versa.
In particular:
Routes Athens - Thessaloniki (IC50 and IC56)
Trains will perform their planned route to the Leeano branch. From there passengers will be transferred to buses of Hellenic Train bound for:
* Thessaloniki (directly)
* Platy (direct)
* Catarina (directly)
* Paleofarsalo - Larissa
At the same time, a bus will be routed starting in Paleofarsalos, which will serve the stations Larisa, Katerini and Platy successively, with a final destination in Thessaloniki. Departures from Paleofarsalos will take place at 10:00 and 21:00.
Routes Thessaloniki - Athens (IC51 and IC57)
Passengers will initially be transported by buses from Hellenic Train from Thessaloniki, and the intermediate stations, to the Leiano branch, from where they will continue their journey to Athens by transfer to a train.
Buses will be routed:
* Thessaloniki - Leiano branch (direct), at departure time 5:55 and 16:49.
* Platy - Lion branch (direct), at departure time 6:20 and 17:14.
* Katerini - Leiano branch (direct), at departure time 6:43 and 17:37.
* Larissa - Paleofarsalos - Leiano branch, with departure time 7:26 and 18:20.
In addition, a bus will be routed to serve the stations of Thessaloniki - Platy - Katerini - Larissa - Paleofarsalos, with the final destination of the Leianokoudi. Departures from Thessaloniki will take place at 05:55 and 16:49.
The suburban routes in the Larisa - Thessaloniki - Larisa department will be run normally.
