British authorities estimate that the incident occurred before other zoo visitors, who witnessed the dramatic moments.

Cambridgeshire Police announced that a 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested as a suspect in attempted murder.

At the same time, researchers have clarified that, based on the evidence so far, the arrester does not seem to have had anything to do with the child or his family.

Police authorities receive statements from individuals who were in the zoo at the time of the incident, in order to accurately reconstruct the facts and determine how exactly the attack took place.

Research chief, Inspector Verity McCann, said:

"At this stage we talk to people who were in the zoo at the time of this particularly painful incident, in order to better understand the circumstances under which it happened. We do not believe that the man who was arrested and the child knew each other.".

She added:

"Police are on the side of the boy's family in hospital and our thoughts remain with them".

Investigations into the case are under way, while authorities have so far not given more details about the suspect's motives or the exact manner in which the incident occurred.
