It is recalled that after the communication of Thanos Plearis with Stavros Arnaoutakis and Alexis Kalokairinos, the Municipality of Heraklion issued an announcement, according to which the issue of the creation of an immigrant structure in the Immortals will be discussed at the meeting of the Municipal Council of Monday 22 June, while pointing out that "the Mayor of Heraklion asked the Minister before the finalisation of the decision to take into account the issues, particularly environmental and civil protection, posed by the inhabitants of the region."

As indicated in the communication:

"The mayor of Heraklion, Alexis Kalokirinos, informed the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Thanos Plyris, about his decision to create a closed and controlled space for a few days' stay of migrants/refugees in the 10th kilometer of EO Heraklion-Dimion, in the former Skouloudi factory. The Mayor of Heraklion asked the Minister before the finalisation of the decision to take into account the issues, mainly environmental and civil protection, posed by residents of the region.

On the initiative of the Municipal Authority, the issue will come to the City Council which has been convened for Monday 22/6, on the basis of the resolution already adopted (23/3/2026). It is recalled that, according to the announcements of the Minister of Immigration, it will be a Controlled Structure of Temporary Hospitality/Reservation such as the corresponding in Agia Chania, for the recording and transfer of newly arrived immigrants to the structures of mainland Greece within 2-3 days".
