"On the one hand, the architectural unity of the monument is fully restored, on the other hand one can understand what the Greek school of restorations means: The protection of 100% of authentic material, the limited use of new material and the connection of old and new material in an absolutely acceptable way by science and art," the Minister of Culture stressed.
In detail her statement:
"Today we made public a paper of many years, which concerned the restoration of the pediment of the western side of the Parthenon. The Parthenon, its western aspect, was completely freed from scaffolding and its pediment was restored to its architectural unity.
Two erectors were placed, who were missing one of entirely new material and the other, which was indeed an achievement of both scientists and craftsmen of the Acropolis maintenance service, was restored by the incorporation of ancient fragments, namely the original material of the Parthenon with modern material.
In this way, on the one hand, the architectural unity of the monument is fully restored, on the other hand, one can understand what the Greek school of restorations means: The protection of 100% of authentic material, the limited use of new material and the connection of old and new material in an absolutely acceptable by science and art way.".
