A new era of cooperation opens the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (SURVEY) and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA), signing a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at strengthening international extroversion, research excellence and interdisciplinary dialogue.
This strategic partnership creates new prospects for joint actions, linking the country's largest university with one of the most important European institutions for the promotion of science, letters and arts.
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum took place on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
The event was opened at his address by the Rector of the EKPA, Professor Gerasimos Siassos. Addresses were addressed by the President of EASA, Professor Klaus Mainzer, the vice president of the Academy, Professor Ioannis Lyrintzis, as well as the national representative of the Greek branch of EASA, Emeritus Professor Emmanuel Fragoulis.

The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by the Rector of the CRP and the President of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, sealing the new institutional cooperation of the two institutions.
As part of the event Speech was held by the former Dean of the University of Athens and honorary Professor George Babiniotis on the subject "Worm: the "getting" and the "being" of speech". The event was completed with the final speech of EASA President Klaus Mainzer, entitled ‘Challenges of Europe’s Future. From Greek Heritage to Innovative Competitiveness", followed by a music program.

At his placement, Rector Gerasimos Siassos described the agreement as the beginning of an important institutional cooperation, based on common values, dedication to scientific excellence and the promotion of knowledge, research and international academic cooperation.
As reported, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as the country's first and largest university, has been serving for nearly two centuries the progress of science, education and society. At the same time, he stressed that the strong international presence of the Foundation, the significant research distinctions, its participation in European and international networks and its continued orientation towards extroversion are the basis for the development of strategic partnerships that enhance its academic mission.
Mr.Siasos stressed that the signing of the Memorandum creates a stable institutional framework for the development of joint research initiatives, the co-organization of scientific conferences and symposiums, the submission of joint funding proposals, as well as the strengthening of academic mobility and networking. It is, as he noted, a cooperation that broadens the possibilities of both institutions and strengthens the international impact of the scientific work produced.
He made a special reference to the hospitality of the Greek Annex of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in the EKPA, pointing out that this development is a practical recognition of the prestige of the University of Athens and contributes substantially to the strengthening of Greece's presence on the European academic map.
In closing, the Rector stressed that at a time when Europe and the world are called upon to face complex challenges, cooperation between universities, academies and research bodies becomes more necessary than ever, noting that "science must function as a cooperation bridge and as a force for progress".
