Three arrests for fires from negligence in areas of Ilia, Kilkis, and Evia advanced the fire department's investigative services.

In particular, as made known by the Fire Department, a man of Greek citizenship, caused a fire in the community of Kyllini, Municipality of Andravida - Kyllini, at around 15:10 during cleaning operations with agricultural machinery in olive groves, without taking the planned fire safety measures. From the fire three acres of agricultural land were burned. The man was arrested as part of the auto-procedure, while he was fined an administrative fine of 1,687.50 euros.

In addition, in the agro-forestry area of the Pentalofos Community, in the position "Anhydrus" of the Municipality of Paionia Kilkis, a man of Greek citizenship, caused a fire when carrying out agricultural work with an agricultural destroyer, without taking the necessary fire safety measures. From the fire some 15 acres of agricultural land and five acres of grassland were burned. The competent prosecutor was informed of the incident and the automatic procedure was followed.

Finally, in Chalkida Evia, 78-year-old caused a fire in a residential area and in parked vehicles, in his attempt to operate a vehicle without registration plates, linking his battery to a charger. As it became known by the Fire Department, by the short circuit caused, a fire occurred, resulting in about 200 sq.m. of dry grass and timber being burned, while extensive damage was caused to two J.E. cars. The 78-year-old was arrested as part of the autonomic process.

It is noted that from 1 January to 18 June 2026 a total of 442 administrative fines, totalling EUR 456,810.13, have been imposed, while 103 arrests have been made in the context of the self-imposed procedure for infringements of laws relating to the cause of fires.

As highlighted by the Fire Department, the Fire Department of Firefighting Crimes (I.A.E.) and the investigative services of the Fire Corps continue intensive checks and proceed directly to the performance of responsibilities where violations are detected.

Finally, the Fire Corps recalls that the vast majority of fires are still due to human negligence. "The strict observance of fire safety measures and the avoidance of work that can cause sparks or ignition are a key condition for the protection of human life, the natural environment and the property of citizens," stresses the Fire Department.
