Another labour accident was recorded in the Municipality of Volos, the second within six months, resulting in a serious injury to the cleaning service.

According to what became known by the OTA Workers' Association, the incident occurred during the working hours, when employees of Cleanness Address of the Municipality of Volos performed work with waste water Iolkou Street.

By the time the vehicle had stopped normally for loading waste bin, was heavily impacted by passing car, which fell on him with speed.

According to gegonota.newsThe conflict seriously injured a working, contracted employee, who was at the back of the garbage truck along with another colleague. The woman suffered severe leg injuries and was immediately transferred to Volos Hospital, where he was undergoing surgery and the necessary medical examinations.

On the occasion of the new accident, OTA Workers' Association It comes back to the complaints it has made for years about working conditions in municipalities.

Workers are reportedly faced with serious risks every day due to the lack of necessary health and safety measures, the under-strainment of services and the intensification of work.

In particular, according to the Association's Bureau, the Municipality of Volos has not been granted the workers or the necessary Individual Protection Instruments (PPPs) for about two and a half years.

As it is claimed, this situation results in workers being exposed to daily risks and, in several cases, being forced to supply the required equipment themselves, being financially burdened.

The Association also states that it has already reported to the Labour Inspectorate, since the summer of 2025, that the PPE was not granted for the years 2024 and 2025, and that it has requested that it be paid directly, even in financial form, as provided for in the legislation.

"Arriving in June 2026, the PPE has not yet been given, which should of course have the necessary specifications, to carry out their purpose, which is ultimately the protection of workers," says the Bureau of the Association of Workers' Association.

At the same time, he expresses his wishes for a rapid recovery of the injured worker, noting that she was lucky as she avoided the risk to her life, while confirming that she will be at her side for anything she needs in the next period.
