"Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire starting at 4 p.m. local time Friday, a senior American official told Reuters.
"Hezbollah and Israel agreed to a ceasefire," said anonymity official, adding that US and Qatar's negotiators shaped the agreement with Iran's help.
"We understand that after the firefight earlier today, Israel and Hezbollah are now in a ceasefire," the same source added.
Tehran 'port' in Washington and Israel
Earlier, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci accused Israel of seeking a "permanent war", following the statements of Israel's National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvere, who said that "all Lebanon must be burned" after the death of four Israeli soldiers in the region.
"This is not a delirium of an accidental genocidal paranoid. It is a public post of the Israeli National Security Minister. Tel Aviv-based genocidal death worship is a threat to all mankind. It threatens all people. Her only interest is the permanent war," Aragchi wrote on the X platform.
At the same time, Iran accused the United States of having direct responsibility for Israeli attacks on Lebanon, condemning operations against Hezbollah and warning of their impact on regional peace and security.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bagaei said that the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah is an integral part of the understanding agreement reached this week between Washington and Tehran to end conflicts on all fronts. He added that Iran would take "all necessary measures" to protect its interests, security and allies.
