The next round of talks between Lebanon and Israel will take place on the three-day 23–25 June in Washington, the State Department announced, following the telephone communication by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio with the President of Lebanon Joseph Aun.
Rubio reiterated that it is necessary to disarm the Hezbollah and confirmed that the US supports the Lebanese government in its attempt to create a sovereign state that will live peacefully with all its neighbours, State Department spokesman said, Tommy Piggott..
According to a Lebanese presidency statement, President Aun told Rubio that a "total ceasefire" would constitute the "fundamental basis" in order to make progress in direct talks with Israel. Lebanese president also thanked Rubio "for US support for Lebanon".
