An important step towards Ukraine's EU accession path is the opening up of the first group of chapters of the accession negotiations on the so-called issues of the "Future Authorities", held at the EU-Ukraine Intergovernmental Conference, today in Luxembourg.
Funds for 'funds' cover the basic values and principles underlying the EU - the acquis of the EU relating to the rule of law and fundamental rights, the functioning of democratic institutions, reform of public administration and economic criteria.
"The current historical milestone is one of the most important events of the Cyprus Presidency and sends a clear message: The future of Ukraine and its citizens is firmly anchored in the EU," said the Cyprus Deputy Minister of European Affairs Marilena Rauna from Luxembourg. She stressed Ukraine's "stable commitment to European integration" and the "essential progress made towards unprecedented challenges".
The accession process is based on meritocracy. Monitoring progress in harmonising and implementing the acquis of the EU and the relevant European standards will continue throughout the negotiations.
It is noted that trading funds are divided into 6 thematic groups: Fundamental, Internal Market, Competitiveness and Development, Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity, Resources, Agriculture and Cohesion and External Relations.
