Four people died in the Adriatic, following a collision between a catamaran and a sailboat that occurred Sunday, between the tourist islands of Brak and Solta. Croatian authorities today recovered the body of the fourth victim from the sinking sailing vessel, which had ended up at the bottom of the sea.

The accident occurred between a catamaran, in which more than 100 people were aboard, and a sailboat flying the flag of France. The causes of the conflict have not yet been clarified, while the competent authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

Eight Czechs were aboard the boat. The four were rescued, the three killed on site and their bodies recovered, while the eighth crew member was missing until his detection inside the sunk vessel.

"The body of the eighth member (the crew) was recovered from the sinking sailing vessel. The body was moved by police to undergo further examinations," the Croatian Ministry of Transport and Sea said in a press release.

The ministry announced that the investigation into the causes of the accident would continue under the supervision of the regional prosecutor and the National Bureau of Investigation on aerial, naval and rail accidents. According to Croatian media, Czech authorities are expected to assist in investigations.

Earlier, the port manager of Split, Zeliko Kustera, had announced that divers had located the body. "Last night, the interior ministry divers spotted the sunken sailing boat at a depth of more than 50 meters... and the person we were looking for is inside the cabin," he said on the television network N1.

According to Split hospital, three Czech nationals were slightly injured, while a fourth was seriously injured in the spine.

Catamaran, which managed a Croatian private company, carried 118 passengers and seven crew members. None of the passengers on the catamaran were injured.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and his Czech counterpart, Andrei Babish.
