Police officers of the Department for Combating Trafficking in Humans and Goods of the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime, arrested Monday morning (15/6) in Athens, 56-year-old, who is accused of violating legislation on the protection of antiquities.

In particular, after using information from the Ministry of Culture and after checking digital data, it emerged that the 56-year-old introduced and held ancient coins and items, while attempting to make some of them available via an online social networking platform.

An investigation followed, in the presence of a judicial officer, at his residence in an area of Attica, where they were found and seized:

-36 coins,

-15 metal buckles,

-9 rings,

-8 arrow points,

-old bottle,

-pile handle,

- an object with a female head,

- angel,

-a necklace mounted on a frame,

The confiscated items were examined by a currency expert and archaeologist, who concluded that 35 coins fall under the antiquities protection legislation, while for other works further evaluation and documentation will follow.

The arrester, with the file formed against them, will be taken to the competent prosecutor.
