In early elections the Greek Taekvodo Federation (J) O.T.), following the meeting of the Board of Directors, during which the proposal to convene an Extraordinary General Assembly was adopted and archiving for the emergence of a new administration.
Sydney Gold medalist 2000, Michalis Mouroutsos, along with 13 other members of the Board of Directors, voted against the proposal.
During the meeting it was noted that the proposal for early elections is not directed against persons nor is it a question of the offer of members of the current administration. On the contrary, it was underlined that this is an institutional initiative aimed at giving the speech to the Federation's member associations, so that they decide who will take over its administration for the next period.
The main point of the recommendation was the finding that recent developments in the field of arbitration have created a serious lack of confidence in the sports community. As stressed, regardless of the criminal or disciplinary assessment of individual cases, the image of the Federation has been damaged, while the trust of a significant number of sports clubs, athletes, coaches and factors towards EL.O.T. institutions has been shaken. According to the proposal, this climate even results in decisions taken with full legitimacy being put into question, making it difficult for the Federation to function.
Under these circumstances, one would expect that a proposal aimed at renewing institutional legitimacy of administration through recourse to the will of unions could bring greater, even unanimous, acceptance. However, the proposal was adopted by a majority, which shows that different approaches remain to how the present situation is managed.
The majority of the members who supported the proposal argued that the clean, democratic and institutionally strong solution is to renew the mandate by the unions themselves, so that the new administration would have strong legitimacy and be able to work to restore the confidence, unity and credibility of the Federation.
The Extraordinary General Assembly is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, with the aim of electing a new Board of Directors, while in the event of no quorum there will be a repeat meeting on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
At the same time, all the procedures provided for in the law and the statutes for the organisation of archeries are initiated, with the aim of carrying out the electoral process in full transparency and in accordance with the current institutional framework.
The decision marks the beginning of a new election process for the Greek Taekvodo Federation, with the main aim of restoring the trust of sports clubs, strengthening institutional legitimacy of administration and ensuring conditions of unity and stability for the sport.
