In the tragic incident with the death of the 54-year-old nurse at Nafplion Hospital, the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiades, reported with his posting, quoting a statement from the president of the Association of Hospital Workers, Vassilis Bavella.
According to what Mr.Bavellas said, the incident of the nurse's arrest is not linked to the Roma and their relatives who were at that time in the hospital, as originally reported in some publications.
"The incident with the death of our nurse and the Roma and their relatives who made trouble are not related, as written yesterday. They were not aggressive, but they shouted and cried, because they had an 8-year-old child unconscious with them and thought he was dead. But he had not died," he said.
The president of the workers also noted that "it is a fact that an emergency may force the nurse", however adding that "the truth is that our nurse shouldn't be at that time at the TEP because we didn't warn yesterday.".
Republished the statement, the Health Minister said he investigated the case and concluded that no responsibilities should be attributed to the child's relatives.
"I investigated the incident and should not be charged to the Roma who were there and were struggling for their child. This is not an incident of violence towards our employees. Incidents of this nature have occurred, but not yesterday," wrote Mr Georgiadis.
The minister closed his post expressing his condolences to the nurse's family.
