Controls of safety officials of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus are intensified on the vessels of the ferry in the summer period, with the aim of addressing drug trafficking and enhancing passenger safety.
As part of the checks, officials of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus proceeded to arrest one 20-year-old Greek, charged with violating the legislation on substances.
The young woman was spotted during a check carried out on the passenger-vehicle ship at the main passenger port of Piraeus, with the assistance of the specially trained police drug detection dog of the Port Corps. During the check she was found in possession of the nylon pack containing cocaine total mixed weight cocaine 52.5 grams.

Port authorities also went on to seize two mobile phones, while the drug is to be sent to the State General Chemistry for laboratory examination. According to the first estimates, the value of the quantity seized on the illegal market exceeds 2,600 euros.
The case is part of the wider context of increased checks carried out by the Port Corps on passenger stations and on ferry ships at the start of the summer tourist season, when passenger traffic to the islands records a significant increase. Controls are expected to continue with unabated intensity in all major ports in the country.
