Thousands of residents left their homes in the face of the planned elimination of a 250 kg bomb of World War II, discovered in the German city Potsdam Just outside Berlin.

About 6,500 inhabitants, living in this area, were invited to evacuate it by 8:30 a.m. (09:30 Greek time) this morning. Members of the agencies to deal with emergency situations went door-to-door to check if everyone has left, according to a representative of the city's municipal authority.

Train traffic at the main city railway station has been discontinued.

Exclusion zone with a radius of 700 meters has been created around the American-built bomb found during construction work in the city center.

Bomber Mike Svitske said he expects the operation to neutralize the bomb to last from 30 minutes to an hour.
