The former Prime Minister and Head of EL.A.S, Alexis Tsipras, held a meeting with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides today, on the occasion of his presence at the grandeur for the needs of the 3rd International Conference organized by his Institute.
See in detail Al's statement. Tsipras after meeting with Cyprus President N.Christodoulidis:
First of all, I am very happy to have had the opportunity to be my first trip after the founding of EL.A.S. here in Cyprus. On the occasion of the 3rd International Conference of IAT organized tomorrow here in Nicosia, in collaboration with the Institute of Prometheus.
With President Christodoulides, I had the opportunity to discuss the latest developments, the geopolitical, the Cyprus problem, but also to remember the close cooperation we had when he was a government representative and later foreign minister.
When the two governments of Greece and the Republic of Cyprus were in very close coordination and cooperation, making efforts both to resolve the Cyprus problem, but also to defend Cyprus and to win, as we finally achieved, European sanctions against Turkey at the European Council, when it violated the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone.
Today, at a time of intense geopolitical crises, this coordination between Athens and Nicosia is more than ever necessary and the support of Cyprus, when necessary, is necessary in order for the Republic of Cyprus to defend its sovereign rights, as they result from international law. Greece and Cyprus, as you well know, are forces of peace and stability and must always defend international law.
It is international law that can defend our vital interests and that alone. And oppose those who violate international law and oppose any logic that wants to enforce the law of the powerful. I hope the difficulties in the Middle East are behind us. I hope and hope that the agreement signed Friday in Geneva will be permanent and final. Because this illegal and irrational and unnecessary war must stop.
Finally, we had the opportunity with the President to discuss the latest developments in Cyprus and we agreed that every effort should be made to relaunch the talks from where they stopped, based on the Gutiera framework, for a fair and sustainable solution of the Cyprus problem to the benefit of all the Cypriot people and the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.
