This is the first time in many months that the two leaders have a private meeting. After their explosive meeting at the White House in February 2025, their subsequent meetings were at lower tones, either at the White House or at the Vatican, at Pope Francis' funeral.
In a social media post Zelenski welcomed the constructive debate between the leaders of G7 and Ukraine, thanking his counterparts for the time they devoted to him this morning and "for strong proposals on how Russia will be forced to make peace.".
"The priorities are clear: more air defense missiles along with licenses for their production, a winter support package and a boost in pressure on Russia. It is important that the US is ready to provide support for all these areas of action. It is vital that everything that has been discussed is implemented. Russia must realise that its war will never be accepted. I thank everyone who helps," he wrote.
