A historical surveillance post of the eastern Aegean, the so-called "Acrotiri" in Lesvos was renovated deeply with sponsorship of the Athanasios K. Lascaridis Public Benefit Foundation. The Foundation's initiative is primarily about improving the conditions under which Armed Forces personnel offer their services in the extreme areas of our country. In addition, however, there is an emotional dimension to this donation, as the reconstructed outpost, this advanced modern "vigla" of Lesvos, was dedicated to sculptor Athanasios Limneios (1908-1907). Excellent artist, born in Mytilene but of origin from Lemnos - hence his surname - Athanasios Limnaios was family-related to Athanasios K. Lascaridis.
The fully renovated outpost "Acrotiri" was attributed to the Armed Forces on Monday, June 15, at a modest opening ceremony, in the presence of Chief General Demetrius Hoopi, representatives of the State and religious authorities, Local Government, Armed Forces and local authorities.
On behalf of the Athanasios K. Lascaridis Public Benefit Foundation, his President, Mrs Evi Lazou-Laskarides pointed out that "our decision to proceed with the reconstruction of Acrotiri prison stems from a simple but substantial belief: that responsibility towards the country is expressed through actions. For us, supporting such projects is not just about infrastructure. It concerns people - those who serve daily in acrylic areas and need a decent, functional and human space.
“ At the same time, dedication to the memory of Athanasios Limnaios gives donation a deeper dimension. It connects our family history with the place and reminds us that every offer has greater meaning when it takes root in a relationship of memory and responsibility.
We believe that real-value interventions are those that respond to existing needs and contribute, in a stable and measurable way, to the common good.".

For his part, the Chief of Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, made a very warm welcome, expressing his gratitude to the family of Mr. Athanasios K. Laskaridis for her timeless contribution, both through donations to the Armed Forces and through the wider work of the Foundation. General Houpis also made special reference to the Foundation's environmental programmes, and in particular the Typhoon Project, stressing the importance of his contribution to the protection of the Greek seas. Typically, Mr.Huppis said, closing "we thank you from the heart, you make us proud. We want to assure you that this tradition, here on Mount Athos of the Aegean, will continue to exist with people who ensure that the glorious past of our country has a bright future.".

The reconstruction of the surveillance prison "Acrotiri" in Lesvos is part of the overall approach of the Athanasios K. Laskaridis Public Benefit Foundation for the implementation of actions with a substantial social impact and duration. In this context, strengthening infrastructure contributing to the everyday life of people serving in critical positions of responsibility is an act of practical support for the common good. And with the dedication of the prison to the memory of the sculptor Athanasios Limnaios, an additional, personal symbolism that bridges memory, place and offering is given to this sponsorship.

More generally, the Athanasios K. Laskaridis Public Benefit Foundation continues to implement actions that enhance local communities, protect the environment and create sustainable development conditions, with the aim of forming a positive and lasting footprint for the whole of Greek society.
