Donald Trump did not hide his enthusiasm for his French counterpart's invitation, Emmanuel Macron, to dine tomorrow at Versailles, because Louis XIV's palace is "the heavy artillery".

"The French president, who turns out to be a very kind man, invited me to dine in Versailles," Trump said on the margins of the G7 summit in Evian. "Versailles, not gilded, are heavy artillery. And so I said I would like it very much," continued the American president, known for his worship of gold, with whom he has decorated much of the White House after his return to power, in 2025.

The Republican billionaire, who left Sunday in the night from Washington, after celebrating his birthday with a Mixed War Arts show in the White House gardens, admitted that due to dinner, near Paris, he would once again be forced to travel at a very late hour. But "in any case, I don't sleep much," he commented.

In France, the opposition suspects that Macron organized the dinner at King Sun's residence to welcome Trump, known for his love of luxury receptions.

"This is not a gala, but a dinner to celebrate the 250 years" since the US declaration of independence "because France played a role," the French president explained on Monday.

In Paris it is said very seriously that Louis XVI, welcoming Benjamin Franklin to Versailles in 1778, promised him military support for U.S. independence. The declaration of independence was signed in the palace in 1783.

Elise promises it will be a "serious" work dinner between the teams of the two presidents.
