Yum Brands Inc. decided to sell Pizza Hut against $2.7 billion two different buyers.

In particular, according to the company's announcement, Pizza Hut's activities outside mainland China will be controlled by private equity LongRange Capital for $1.5 billion. At the same time, the chain stores in China will be bought by Yum China Holdings Inc. For $1.2 billion.

Yum! Brands says it is selling Pizza Hut in a $2.7 billion deal that will split ownership of the restaurant chain between a U.S. private equity firm and a Chinese restaurant company.

The deal marks an important strategic move for Yum Brands, which seeks to remodel its portfolio and focus on activities with higher growth prospects.

The news was positively received by investors, with Yum Brands' share being boosted up to 2.2% in pre-session transactions.

The sale comes at a time when Pizza Hut faces challenges in several markets, as competition in the focus industry is intensifying and consumer habits change.

Pizza Hut was acquired by PepsiCo (PEP.O), in 1977 and split in 1997 along with KFC and Taco Bell to form the company renamed Yum Brands in 2002. Yum, which will maintain Taco Bell and KFC, expects the sale to be completed in the third quarter of 2026, provided that the required approvals are received by regulatory authorities.
