Protection against the effects of Artificial Intelligence and Eleftheroty were at the heart of the government majority, at the first meeting of the Constitutional Review Committee.

At the same time, PASOK brought to the table the constitutional guarantee of protection against femaleicide and the protection of abortions, with Syriza agreeing.

The meeting took place in a mild tone, despite the voiced will of the opposition not to support the revised provisions in the proposing parliament and refer them to the next.

The New Democracy proposal for Artificial Intelligence
The ND has proposed revision of Article 5 (for the free development of personality), in order to provide constitutional protection against the effects of Artificial Intelligence.

"Greece must become the first country to move on to Digital Constitution by introducing in its Constitution reference to artificial intelligence," said majority rapporteur Euripidis Stylianidis, who stressed at the same time the need for an overall reform of the institutional framework of the media.

"With Article 5A we now propose a new Article 5B which will refer to the positive-ethics use of Artificial Intelligence and to address the negative effects that may result from it. This can be expressed abstractly, to make any violation of human rights protected by the Greek Constitution, by bad uses of AI conductable," he added.

At the same time, he called for the revision of Articles 14 (free press) and 15 (for cinema and television), to extend the protection of freedom of expression in modern media, as well as the protection of the journalist against his employer.

PASOK's proposal on women's killing, Syriza agrees
Given the inability of PASOK to submit his own proposal for revision (50 MPs are required, in which he has 32) the rapporteur of the main opposition Panayiotis Doudonis called for changes to Article 5, so that the prohibition of discrimination would add gender, age, sexual orientation and disability. He also proposed an addition that "protection against gender violence and femaleicides is an obligation of the State".

Explaining the reasoning of PASOK, Mr. Doudanis noted that the term has now been accepted in the public discourse. "It is a matter of the state to address this phenomenon, which is worrying. It seems like the State is just watching it while we say it concerns her," he said.

The rapporteur of SYRIZA Theophilus Xanthopoulos agreed with the proposal, noting that women are killed because of their sex, and suggested that every possibility of the legislature be exhausted. "The Commission," he admitted, "does not have an organic position, but let us see if we have an intervention tool".

KKE MP Maria Komnenaka appeared positive on the proposal, but she did not. As he said, a constitutional addition "does not cease to be a declaration that does not enshrine the support that women, especially the people's families, who experience the multiform violence.".

For his part, independent MP Nasos Iliopoulos said that PASOK's proposals are moving in a positive direction, but there is no field of consensus with the ND.

Proposal on abortion
PASOK also proposed the constitutional safeguarding of reproductive freedom, including the right to abortion, with the aim of guaranteeing, as Mr Dudonis said, "constitutional rights that some years ago were considered self-evident, but today there are voices that lead to a setback.".

Commission Vice-President and PASOK Member Evangelia Liakouli added that the proposal would impose on the state and establishment of in vitro fertilization centres with free access for couples.

The ND was not placed on abortion and female homicide issues. NIC called for the "value of the life of the unborn child" to be guaranteed.
