The World Cup of football began and so far few of the favourites have managed to justify their title with Spain falling victim to huge surprise as at its premiere it stayed in the white tie with Cape Verde. ..

A result that was treated as a defeat in the Iberian country. .. But not throughout its territory as in Catalonia one could say that the achievement of players from Capo Verde was celebrated as a victory.

And if someone thinks we're overreacting, mention that today (Tuesday, 16/6) on Radio Catalunya 1 was hosted by Danny Campanias.

Who's the gentleman? A Catalan carpenter who has lived in Cape Verde for 20 years.

Why was Campanias important? The humble carpenter is currently building the federal coach's kitchen, Pedro Leitao and revealed the premium he promised if Cape Verde beat Spain!

"We build the cuisine of the national elector and I told him that if they won the game against Spain, I would do it to him completely free," said Campanies and completed: "I had also worked with the team leader ten or twelve years ago. Here's a lot of work.".

The Catalan businessman did not reveal whether he would gift the kitchen after the tie gained by Leitao's team, but described the night of joy throughout the country. ..

"What happened is a historic event. After the game the streets were filled, it was an absolute party. Relatives, friends, the whole world had gone out. That was great. This is very good for Cape Verde. Hope is never lost. They have nothing to lose and will come out to win the match against Saudi Arabia.".

Campanies also shared an earlier story about Vozinia, Cape Verde goalkeeper who evolved into face of the race:

"He used to ask me to buy him gloves, because there it was very difficult to find in the country. Today, reality for the 40-year-old goalkeeper, who plays in Portugal's second division, is very different. He's a player, now his gloves have nothing to do with it. He is extremely humble and hardworking.".
