Five women were injured after an acid attack occurred Monday night (15/6) in Jersey City of New Jersey.

According to city mayor, James Solomon, and local media, two people on a moped passed by their car on Wilkinson Avenue and they were dropped acid. Then they left the spot.

Authorities believe the attack was targeted and is linked to previous controversy.

According to WABC, all five women were rushed to local hospitals withinjuries that do not threaten their lives, including burns and skin exfoliation caused by the corrosive substance. So far their identity has not been known. Every woman's condition is stable.

"My thoughts are with those injured in this horrible attack, and I want our communities to know that violence like this has absolutely no place in our streets," Solomon stressed in a post on his official Facebook account. "I have instructed the JCPD (New Jersey Police Department) to utilize all his resources for the investigation and ensure that our police officers will work nonstop to track down the responsible and refer them to justice".

So far no arrests have been made, while the investigation into the whereabouts of the perpetrators continues.
