The summit between the European Union and the United Kingdom will take place on 22 July in Brussels, European Council President Antonio Costa and British Prime Minister Kir Starmer announced on Tuesday.

This is the second session of the two sides after Brexit, after that hosted in London in May 2025.

Britain officially left the EU in 2020, four years after the referendum that divided the country.

" Close cooperation between the EU and the UK is essential for our common European security, resilience and well-being," he wrote on the platform H Antonio Costa, following his meeting with Starmer on the margins of the G7 session in Evian. "We work closely to crown it with success," this summit added.

"The Labour Government keeps the promise to renew our relationship (with the EU) and put Britain back in the heart of Europe. Together, we will face the cost of living, give impetus to the labour market and create opportunities for young people," the British Prime Minister assured him.

In 2024, Starmer won the election in favor of a re-approach with the EU, however set many ‘red linesLondon will not return to the single market, customs union, nor will it allow free movement.

In May he said he wanted to be one ‘large jump’ forward at the July summit, in areas such as trade, defence and security cooperation. His government also wants to work more closely with the EU on issues such as tariffs on steel, energy and food standards.
