The Democratic Republic of Congo announced today that the number of confirmed Ebola virus cases increased to 837, after 29 new cases were recorded the previous 24 hours.

Of these patients, 196 have found death, based on government evidence.

Meanwhile, Ugandan vice president Jessica Alupo today called for the removal of "unbecoming" travel restrictions on its fellow citizens, arguing that the country has controlled the current Ebola epidemic.

"We have never exported any epidemic. We will never export her either," he told a teleconference of African leaders and donors about the Ebola crisis.

"We therefore call on all countries that have imposed inappropriate restrictions on Ugandan citizens to lift them, because Uganda has effectively controlled the current epidemic," he stressed.
