"He who is 83 years old has 17 murders on his back," said Minister of Justice, George Florides, invited to comment on the decision of the Supreme Court to return Alexander Giotopoulos to prison, to complete the execution of his sentence, while expressing his appreciation that the executioner of 17 November has shown no remorse for the murders he has committed.

"The legal reasoning of the decision is very important, because the Supreme Court is clarifying a matter that I think the Court of Appeal saw wrong. In other words, when we have a newer provision setting time longer in the penalty report, the Court of Appeal said that the oldest was valid while the Supreme Court said that the 2021 provision should be correctly applied for the execution of the 25 years," Mr. Florides originally said and added:

"The second is that the Supreme Court says that it should play an important role in whether the condemned has shown elementary regret. He showed that not only is there no regret, he probably doesn't give a shit. When you ask to go out before the upper limit on terms, to be accepted you must have shown a behavior that you must have felt something.".

On the point about Yotopoulos' age, the Minister of Justice made clear: "I don't want to be a judge, but the man who is 83 years old has 17 murders on his back".
