In full operation for sea traffic is being launched as of today, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the Corinth Canal. The reopening of the channel was made possible following the progress and successful completion of the main part of the restoration and stabilisation work of the ramps.
The decision to reopen the crossings was taken following a systematic assessment of the progress of technical interventions. According to the company's announcement, particular attention was given to the importance of the Canal for shipping, tourism and strengthening the local economy during the summer period.
According to the same announcement, all major tasks directly related to the safe passage of vessels have been successfully completed. Such interventions shall ensure the necessary conditions for the operation of the project, in full compliance with the most stringent safety and operational preparedness standards in force.
"However, today's reopening does not mark the end of interventions. The overall modernisation and upgrading programme of the Corinth Canal continues normally, based on the initial operational planning. The aim of the ongoing projects is to provide long-term protection and upgrade of infrastructure with national and international scope, steadily strengthening its security, functionality and reliability," the communication stresses.
