In preparation orbit for upcoming announcements of the Thessaloniki International Exhibition (ITH) The financial staff, with the Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, is located to make it clear that the financial space for the support of society is given.
In an interview with Patras's MAX FM radio station and journalist Alexander Kogolis, Mr. Pierrakakis stressed that the final mixture and the exact amount of interventions are under formation, as the final financial data are expected.
‘There will be room for new measures, that is for granted, I can tell you that from now on. There will be budgetary space and there will be support for society in particular. The question is, what's the mixture? I mean, what do I mean? You see that now the Commission has also announced the part concerning the so-called 'energy escape clause'. So we also have additional measures targeted, specifically for energy investment. This is a separate piece of the announcements the Prime Minister will make to the ITH. We are discussing the overall budgetary area, namely the amount and mix of concrete measures to be announced by the Prime Minister. But I can tell you from the outset that there will be room, there will be interventions, there will be measures in this general direction that we are discussing.“ He pointed out.
"We cannot talk about development involving all citizens unless we provide viable solutions to those who owe", stated.
Government philosophy, according to him, remains committed to returning any permanent surplus to citizens, away from last-minute election promises. In fact, he recalled the recent tax reform of EUR 1.76 billion, calling it the biggest tax exemption of Metapolitisation. At the same time, in addition to the INT package, specific reference was made to the additional, targeted measures for energy investments brought about by the European energy escape clause, with the aim of reducing the cost to households in the medium term.
Triple front against accuracy, second chance for private debt
Recognising that accuracy is the biggest daily challenge for households, the Minister noted that the battle is being fought simultaneously in raising incomes (with the minimum wage reinforced by 46%), reducing weights and strict controls against dirty gain. He described the gradual de-escalation of international oil prices as a positive development linked to the expectations of ending war conflicts, recalling that the government already allocated 800m euros to manage the crisis caused by the closure of the Straits of Hormuz.
Particular emphasis was placed on the issue of private debt, which he described as a major unfinished business of the past decade. A second opportunity package was presented to deal with it, including:
•The reduction in the threshold for accession to the extrajudicial mechanism to EUR 5,000.
• The possibility of adjusting debts to 72 instalments.
• Increasing the irrevocable limit to 1,600 euros and releasing accounts for consistent debtors.
• Enhanced protection of the first residence through the extrajudicial mechanism (with a larger "haircut" and a lower dose), as well as the operation of the Property Acquisition and Rerenting Body, for which the temporary contractor was announced.
• Regional innovation hub Greece – Unresponsible opposition rhetoric
In the field of technology, it was expressed the certainty that Greece has all the conditions to evolve into a regional hub of technology and Artificial Intelligence. Having as an acquis the success of Gov.gr, the lead in 5G and attracting investments in data centers, the next step concerns the integration of artificial intelligence into Health, Education, Justice and Business, with the ultimate aim of strengthening national productivity.
Commenting on the domestic political scene, the minister rejected the election scenarios for spring, stressing that the government's horizon is committed to 2027. Turning its arrows to the opposition and references to alternative billion projects, he described this attitude as "irresponsible" and "out of place and time". As he pointed out, his own generation, that of the 40-year-olds, bore an abysmal account of the promises of the past, filling that the real enemy of the government is not the other parties, but the citizens' own problems.
Achaia at the heart of developmental orbit
The interview ended with a special reference to the Minister's forthcoming visit to Achaia, an area with strong growth potential, where turnover in the retail trade has been boosted by almost 30% compared to 2019, while 36,000 new jobs have been created in Western Greece.
As key pillars for the future of the county, he defined the completion of the Patras-Pyrgos road, the further exploitation of the Patras Port, as well as the promotion of the University of Patras and local research centres. The goal of the state, he concluded, is to turn this dynamic into better paid jobs, keeping young people at home.
